Full-Time Geotechnical Engineer – Fort McMurray
Job Description
We are seeking one candidate as a Geotechnical Engineer with Junior to Intermediate level of experience. The ideal candidate will be a professional with a minimum of 3 years to 7+ years experience – the scale of the role will be fit to the candidate’s experience. Preference will be given to those who have worked in the Oil & Gas industry, specifically with Oilsands Mining . This position is for work on site at Fort McMurray, and the candidate must relocate to (or already live in) Fort McMurray, AB.
Our current client is a major mining company and the successful candidate will be working with a team of professionals in an operating Mine facility. As this is a Fort McMurray, AB based position, the schedule is 5 days on and 2 days off.
Engineer Responsibilities
- Work On-Site providing geotechnical engineering support
- Ensuring quality specifications are met for construction projects
- Engineering support for mine waste and tailings management projects
- Complete on-site engineering data analyses and determine appropriate actions for follow-up
- Conduct geotechnical investigations, instrument installation, and construction quality assurance for dams, roads, buildings, and other mine infrastructure
- Assist with planning and supervising geotechnical subsurface investigations
- Assist with writing geotechnical reports and technical communications
- Provide support to Senior geotechnical engineers / geotechnical manager at site
Skills & Qualifications
- Civil engineering and construction oversight within an operating mine
- Understanding of soil mechanics and rock mechanics
- Slope stability and seepage analyses
- Design of large-scale construction features for mining sites (tailings dam and containment structures, roads & pipelines, waste storage, ore stockpiles, reclamation)
- Proficient in mining and engineering software (MineScape, AutoCAD, Geo-Slope, Microsoft Office)
- Field and environmental investigations for Oil & Gas exploration and construction development projects
- Proven data interpretation/analysis, communication, and report writing abilities
- Ability to work independently as well as in a small team setting and foster effective working relationships with their peers
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (geotechnical/civil, or a related field)
- Registration with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.); or Professional Engineer (P.Eng).
- Available for site-based work in, or near, Fort McMurray, AB.
- Class 5 Driver’s License
- Previous Oilsands experience will be an asset
Additional Role Information
- Monday to Friday, 8-hour work days
- Office work with routine field presence
- Only candidates who are legally permitted to work in Canada will be considered
- Registration with APEGA is a condition of employment
- This position will require successful completion of background reference checks as well as education and credentials verification
