Full-Time Mine Engineer (Junior to Intermediate)

About the Role
Salary: 110-170K
We are seeking a Junior to Intermediate Mine Engineer to support daily and short-term mine planning activities in a large open-pit operation. This is an entry-level to mid-level career role ideal for a mining engineer to build hands-on operational planning experience with loading units (electric rope shovels and hydraulic excavators). Experience in water management skills/planning are considered highly favourable.
The successful candidate will work closely with Dispatch, Operations, and Senior Mine Planners to ensure shovel plans are safe, practical, achievable and aligned with production targets..
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and update daily and weekly shovel dig plans
- Allocate shovels to mining faces based on grade, material type, and production priorities
- Monitor shovel performance and provide short-term plan adjustments
- Assist with ore and waste sequencing to meet mill feed and blending requirements
- Support reconciliation between planned vs actual shovel performance
- Prepare and maintain planning maps, dig polygons, and schedules
- Communicate shovel plans clearly to Operations and Dispatch teams
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to shovel productivity
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent degree
- 1–7 years of experience in open-pit mine planning or operations
- Exposure to shovel-truck operations is an asset
- Strong understanding of open-pit mining fundamentals
- Proficient in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight) or willing to learn
- Strong communication skills and a practical, operations-focused mindse
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with Dispatch or Short-Interval Control (SIC) systems
- Familiarity with shovel productivity metrics (dig rates, utilization, availability)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, operations-driven environment
- Willingness to spend time in the pit interacting with crews
